Technology & Combat Characteristics

The Prototype Dom was able to overcome the speed problems that affected previous ground combat mobile suits by hovering over the ground instead of actually walking on it. The Prototype Dom achieved the ability to hover with the addition of several thermonuclear jet engines placed in the soles of the feet, as well as the rear leg armor, and the rear skirt armor around its waist. While hovering, the Prototype Dom was able to reach a top ground speed of up to 240 kilometers per hour, a staggering difference when compared to the top ground speed of Zeon's MS-06J Zaku II Ground Types, which was only a little over 80 kilometers per hour. By hovering, the Prototype Dom not only achieved incredible speed, but also unparalleled maneuverability, able to skate back and forth over the ground with ease. 

Armaments

◾Heat Saber 

A melee weapon which uses thermal energy to superheat a metal blade, allowing it to melt through the enemy's armor at high speed. The Heat Saber was stored horizontally or diagonally on Prototype Dom's backpack when not in use. ◾360mm Giant Bazooka 

A new projectile weapon developed for Prototype Dom's 'hit hard and hit fast' attack philosophy, the 360mm Giant Bazooka was magazine-fed and hold 10 rounds per magazine. It was capable of destroying mobile suits with a single hit, and it can also inflict heavy damage to battleships. ◾H&L-SB25K/280mmA-P Zaku Bazooka 

The 280mm Zaku Bazooka was a standard shell-based projectile weapon that could be equipped to a Zaku/Gouf/Dom type mobile suits. The bazooka fired explosive rounds that were effective against the armor of Earth Federation mobile suits and battleships. 

History

When the Principality of Zeon's invasion of Earth itself began during the One Year War, one problem their military tried to address was developing a high-performance mobile suit for ground combat. Zimmad Company stepped forward with its revolutionary YMS-09 Prototype Dom. It is an entirely new design line built exclusively for ground combat. 

Two Prototype Doms were constructed at Zimmad's facilities in Side 3 and they were both shipped to Zeon's California Base for testing. After the designs were field tested, the Prototype Dom was deemed to be a resounding success and the Principality of Zeon immediately ordered that the unit be mass-produced as the MS-09B Dom.

 The YMS-09 Prototype Dom is a prototype ground mobile suit and is the predecessor to the MS-09B Dom. The unit is piloted by Frederick Cranberry.
